Vomit the Soul
- Coming with this now
well-known Gore picture for the artwork, SORDID unleashes its first full
length release. 11 tracks for 25 minutes of Raw Grind Core in the great
and almighty Old School vein!! Think about old NAPALM DEATH, UNHOLY
GRAVE, REPULSION, SIEGE, and all of these old but still crushing bands!!
These bands are the roots of all the Grind bands of today, and SORDID is
proud to play this Old School Grind Core, with Crust parts, Punk furious
riffs, guttural grunts, mid tempo parts and this great fucking raw and
organic sound!!! Of course don’t wait for the originality of CEPHALIC
CARNAGE here! But just be ready for basic and efficient Grind Core!! I
really enjoyed this “Sordid Remains”, and finally the only weak point is
the short running time, 25 minutes aren’t enough!! We could listen to it
endlessly!! Legendary Grind Core never dies!!! BUY OR DIE!!!

My Last Chapter
- Well this came like a
breath of fresh air from out of nowhere. I’ve never heard of the band
before, by the looks of the CD I expected it to be a gory deathgrind
album. So I had no idea this furious grinding crustcore outfit would
smack me so hard.
The artwork’s very gory, which really set me off the wrong track. The
lyrics can be fairly gory, but also takes up a more serious subject,
namely incest, and also Christianity, everyday, monotonous life etc. So
there’s also some social awareness going on, which is very seldom for
goregrind acts. Music-wise it is absolutely raging, grind-infused
crustcore with a black metal dose. The latter one might not be very
apparent, but at several occasions I find strong similarities to the
French black metallers Antaeus. For the crustcore the traces I can find
are mostly from bands like Detestation and Disrupt, meaning bands very
inspired by the Scandinavian school of crust. But also maybe a little
bit of Drop Dead for that hectic tempo. A mid-paced tune can end up in a
grinding fury before it breaks down into a slower, churning inferno. The
vocals is mostly a raspy screaming, sometimes a little deeper and
sometimes a little brighter, but always brutal-as-hell.
Very energetic, and should be great to see live as it’s perfect for a
troublesome moshpit of drunken punks and metalheads. A bunch of samples
are also thrown in, sometimes a bit funny, like for the The only way to
get to know Jesus is to get on your knees tune where a lady says “take
that book of Mormon and show it so far up your righteous asses that you
choke”. Hehehe…

The Dead Centre
- Fresh release
Australian Grindhead records. Group too from Australia. I do not know,
this collective is how much old, but I know, that playing here - in the
past musicians legendary (as the press release says) groups, such as
NOISAM, SUBVERSION, WORLD ON WELFARE, BASTARDOS. As you can see,
musicians not beginners. Well and a material considered now - a debut!
On what it is congratulated)))! Do You love fast, gloomy, crude,
vigorous music? Yes? Then crust \grind in execution SORDID - that is
necessary for you to arrange a party in a city mortuary!
-
- Music is concentrated
to speed, fury and an atmosphere from which the brain starts to decay,
smelly pus... is allocated are flied flies... all Is made well, quickly,
is ruthless and sickest! Only here quality of a sound rather dirty if to
make loudly, necessarily you notice, that all sounds mixed... Basically,
it is not too terrible, looking at a material. To listen it is possible
both in cheerful mood, and in sad. The sharp razor on veins pass the
parties of guitars destroying a bark of a brain drum-type parties, it is
poisonous a biting vocal... Sometimes roots early NAPALM DEATH are
looked through. Plus, all it is wrapped up in sickmad eight page booklet
(with interesting pictures within the limits of style). You for a long
time went mad? Yes? Well, SORDID will accelerate your meeting with the
psychiatrist!

Thrashpit
- Grindhead Records is
the name of the game, and is it interesting hearing the grind on that
label, as worldwide Grind is going through a restructuring of sorts and
there are more interpretations of the style on an almost daily basis...
So what, pray tell, do Sordid Remains do with the grind genre? Actually,
some damn good stuff. Maybe it's me, but I feel that Napalm Death's
classic "outright grinding metal meets mid-paced, slamming death metal"
fusion was a pretty solid idea, and as such, Sordid Remains combining it
with more generic fare (the obscure B-movie clips, bloody gore,
disgusting sexual depravity) is fairly welcome and makes for an
entertaining ride. A self-titled debut album for both the band and the
label they're on, Sordid Remains not only does the aforementioned
Brumley Boys in Napalm Death justice but the likes of recent Phobia too.
Besides that, I'm a bit rusty on my early grind stuff (or even retro
sounding recent grind) but rest assured this is classic, oldschool
grindcore with the slightest of modern nuances in the production,
lyrics, and delivery.
Opening cut "Psychoanalism" wraps all of the above into one short track.
A crisp, sparkling movie sample of cutting flesh and sinister orchestra
starts off the disc, and shortly after all this atmospheric hoo-hah we
get treated with good old-fashioned Limey grindcore, frontman Keith's
raspy vocals giving things an almost blackened twist. The percussion is
very strongly mixed, sounding organic to the point of almost tinny din.
"Mix 106 F**k You" recalls more mid-period Napalm, the grooving
mid-paced riffs being catchy, brutal, and fuzzy all at the same time.
Eventually, a bass led freakout leads into more blasting affairs, and
the song showcases a much more versatile band than the first track. "Tuol
Sleng" spares no time in kicking your ass, full-throttle grind slamming
into your face with brutal front kicks and then pummeling you like a
punch flurry with swing after swing of slower riffing. I worship "Dream
of Death," a creepy sample behind a massive riff and some feedback
pinches later getting mauled by the band's most furious grind yet. "The
Only Way to Get to Know Jesus is to get on your Knees" has a very punk
vibe to the guitars, a nice bass line, and some swank lyrics. Great
stuff this! "From the Outside In" is pure aural rape, nothing less, and
"C*nt Struck" follows suit with a low-end bass intro which lowers your
guard for a sideswipe of barreling grind the size of a cement mixer
flying down the highway towards your prone, motionless body. Hell, the
blokes even resurrect Barney of Napalm's famous "death growl/punk
shriek" combo here, to great effect. "Hatred" is another great cut, the
song taking grind to soaring levels of brutality and graceful
ultra-violence with some of the restrained riffs and vocal incantations.
"Hollow" proclaims that we live in a "world of shit" before its mammoth
uptempo grooves crush souls and end lives. "Threat Remains" has a really
wicked opening riff that kind of sinks into grinding fury seconds later,
would have liked to hear it stretched a bit longer actually. Still great
stuff, just check out that zealous vortex of swirling grindcore
mid-song. "Suffocating" is so honestly raw, it will make you grindheads
out there like you're just discovering the genre once more, and bring a
bloody smile to your sick face. If that doesn't, wait for the rabid dog
vokills that close the album and you will grin, no matter what,
satisfaction guaranteed.
In closing, if you like golden-age grind of the crusty, punky kind, with
a smattering of slamming death metal thrown in for kicks, Sordid Remains
are your band. In fact, this just proves that the founding sounds of the
genre aren't just a steaming pile of rotten flesh after all; there's
still life, still breathing.
Check it out, old and new grind fans alike!

The Metal Forge
- Sydney (Australia)
grinders Sordid have been imposing their formidable grind on the local
masses for a little over 18 months. With the obligatory line-up changes
behind them, the quartet (who are vocalist Keith, guitarist Quiff,
bassist Hoggy and drummer Deb) got down to the business of recording
their debut long player titled Sordid Remains.
The noise laden intro to Psychoanalism loosely provides a semi epic
build up for almost half the song before Sordid unleash their
unrelenting grind in your face with the intensity continuing until the
very end. Starting off slower for the first half, Mix 106.Fuck You
grinds through the latter part with guttural vocals and guitars sounding
like early Carcass around the Symphonies Of Sickness era, as does the
crushing Tuol Sleng. The Albert Fish inspired Dream Of Death features
several eerie speech snippets throughout what is one of the best tracks
on offer here before the band revert back to their ruthless flat strap
grinding ways with The Only Way To Get To Know Jesus Is To Get On Your
Knees.
Sordid’s ultra noisey brutal grind continues with From The Outside In
but shakes things up a tad with a tastefully inserted mid section that
eases off the gas pedal long enough to be effective. The quartet
continue to push the boundaries of grind by switching from the 80 second
blast of Cunt Struck (akin to early Napalm Death) to the three and a
half minute non stop grind in Hatred which lacks anything to make it
stand out in the grand scheme of the album. One simple repeated riff
provides the driving force for Hollow before Threat Remains and
Suffocating both unleash the band’s final throws of blasting grindcore
to bring to the album to a close.
Sordid’s Sordid Remains, whilst grind heavy, manages to throw out a
couple of surprises as well that at least keeps the album from falling
into the grasp of becoming monotonous. Grind isn’t for everyone, and nor
is this album any different. Those who dig the genre could certainly do
a lot worse than giving Sordid a spin.

Fish Com
Collective
- Sordid’s debut album
looks like gore on the outside and inside ‘artwork’, but in fact stands
for eleven tracks of crust/grind. The sound is pure, in the sense that
there seems to be hardly any ’studiopolishing’ at all (something well
audible when listening to the snare, for example). This is ofcourse a
plus when talking about grind; together with the steady blastbeats and
raw guitars, this creates a fuzzy, but also efficient groove. If you
have some imagination, close your eyes and you’ll feel like they’re
playing right in front of you. I’m not the biggest fan of the genre, nor
the most knowledgeable expert, but I can appreciate music that appeals
in its genre, and sounds right in its intentions. And that’s the case
here
