Afore being sent this excellent MCD, I hadn't had the pleasure of encountering Ebolie. During its initial spin, these ears found it to be a creative, entertaining and eccentric work. A hybrid of the most significant components of contemporary Grindcore and Brutal Death Metal, 'Elevation into Disintegration' is a perfectly balanced combination of ferocious battery, memorable groove and lilting melody, seamlessly welded together into one instantly loveable whole by skilled musicianship and a refreshing sense of humour and fun. The band place great importance on variety in their compositions, each of the instruments providing a myriad of different sounds and styles to prevent the listening experience from becoming stale. Such methods are present in their tendency to fire on all cylinders at vertiginous speeds one moment, then to suddenly embark on pleasantly jazz flavoured excursions the next.

I can recall Napalm Death and Cryptopsy being used as two examples of Ebolie's influences from when I conducted a little research about the band before penning my review, but I found these acts to be quite loose comparisons in describing what's on offer here. Granted, they often take the Neanderthal approach to grinding employed by the Napalm Death of yesteryear, and their technical abilities can be likened to Cryptopsy to a certain extent, but to the eardrums of this reviewer Ebolie also share the stylistic qualities of some of today's European Grindcore acts, in particular the Czech scene, along with those of 'ultra brutal' bands from the US, with overtones of a few of the more popular cross experimental Relapse Records groups. The over the top, wrist wrenching snaredrum paddleblasts recall Jamie Bailey or Jordan Varela, while the unexpected jazz inflected passages and humorous features remind me of new and old Purulent Spermcanal respectively. The value of diversity bolstered by airtight musicianship is slightly akin to Intervalle Bizarre or Perversist. Some of the most ambitious arrangements are flecked with The Dillinger Escape Plan or perhaps even Virulence. Culminating towards the end of the disc, Ebolie's daftness is similar to French buffoons Gronibard or recent Amoebic Dysentery.

Instead of merely relying upon the talents of a drummer and his 'killer' blasts to carry the sound, Ebolie collectively possess an abundance of versatility, each having inventive little tricks and tactics up his sleeve. Funky guitar licks and pick scrapes, a wonderful array of vokill attacks and dexterous basslines as well as basssolos allow the band as a unit to harness their creativity and pummel it to its full potential. This combination of highly proficient musicianship and adept style hopping can often lead to a band's unfortunate descent into an indecipherable hodgepodge of cluttered structures and indigestible time changes, with far more emphasis on technical braggadocio than on memorable music and atmosphere. However, Ebolie manage to crowbar enough throwbacks to traditional Grind/Death into their colourful compositions to allow them to retain the momentum that is imperative in holding the listeners interest, thus warranting repeat listens and a willingness to investigate their future recordings.

A sludgy, slapdash production would of course smother Ebolie's subtleties and drown their intricacies, rendering them useless, so a clear production is extremely welcome here. Assisted greatly by this crisp, well balanced sound, Ebolie succeed in conveying the purpose of each track whilst ensuring everyone's performance remains salient, without anyone fighting for space.

In summary, 'Elevation into Disintegration' is the sound of a band who have taken a well established musical format, incorporated the standard 'brootal' elements also utilised by their fellow contemporaries, with absolutely no fear of trying out all manner of far reaching styles and contrasting sounds. Whilst staying faithful to the blueprints that characterise Grind/Death, Ebolie inject oodles of new and exciting medication into the genre. The only thing I can possibly pick holes in is the length of the release; I would have appreciated a longer playing time to allow further exploration of Ebolie's quaint diversions, idiosyncratic mannerisms and of course, their ability to grind like utter bastards. But even this disadvantage ends up working in the bands favour after all, leaving me eager to acquire their next recording. An impressive, enlightening and thoroughly entertaining record.

In 2004's Elevation Into Disintegration, Ebolie have offered up a recording with one boot thrust firmly into the neck snapping avalanche that typifies the grindcore sound, while the other boot can be heard, at times, stomping down rhythms, formats, and structures that pump some fresh blood into the sound.

As the gate drops down, frontman Bubsy and company waste no time in lunging for the throat with "Blood Tapped Skull", a well-placed opener, as it deals out the straight-down-the-skull Grindcore Aesthetic: faster than thou, angrier than thou, and harder than thou. After two minutes and nine seconds, you know where things stand.

The overall title track is accented in no small part by the production. Traditionally, the productive side of grind tends to favor dirtiness and sludginess--- lending itself to chaotic atonality. With "Elevation Into Disintegration", the production is more crisp, and has a live, up-front feel to it. Not a bad approach for a sound/message that, naturally, is confrontational and jarring. The type of production utilized reveals the title track (and the span of the recording) to be checkered with interesting harmonized arrangements, and even (albeit brief) the clean channel phrases found in "Elevation Into Disintegration", "Human Error", and the humorously out of place, swing-time jazz/fusion opening of "Foetal Grindings". With "Foetal Grindings", I find what is arguably the most compositionally ambitious track contained within "Elevation Into Disintegration". It also holds the distinction of of being the "longest" track on the recording, clocking in at a hefty three minutes and forty-four seconds. Remember--- with grindcore, a three minute song stretched into a "normal" tempo would likely yield up a nine minute recording.

Even still, when speaking of their status as a primarily death/grind act, Ebolie assaults the senses in this style with alarming ease in cuts "Rape of Sanity", "Straight Edgetesy", and in particular "Work Forced"--- a potent, scathing example of Ebolie's ability to skillfully blend the death and grind elements, where quick, clean shouts swap punches with dirge-like growls. "Queens of the Scene Age" not only maintains this intensity, but opens with classic "four-on-the-floor" metal riffing, dives headlong into death/grind, and comes out on the change with a spinning snap into hardcore punk.

... and it is this versatility that gives the creative element of Ebolie its greatest potential.

Elevation Into Disintegration is both a welcome and necessary acquisition for loyal grindheads, in addition to those who have a taste for the more extreme, underground areas of metal itself. I encourage both the former and the latter to branch out and explore. Do yourself a favor, and jump over to the band's official website: www.ebolie.com

I can only hope that their recent line up changes will only serve to further enhance the seeds of potential that I hear on "Elevation Into Disintegration."

Within the context of the genre, this recording is a solid 9.1

I do not know much about Australia and the Australian way of life. Most of my information about the country I've accumulated has come from a single episode of The Simpsons, the threes Crocodile Dundee movies and from Jocko yelling about batteries and deodorant in commercials in the late 80s, so I'm definitely no expert on the subject. All I've been able to sort out is that Australians are completely fucked. While that may not be a good quality to have if you're running for public office, it's the perfect trait to have if you're playing in a grind band. Ebolie shred their way through 9 tracks of pummeling grinding death in just over 20 minutes. The songs may not be the most original tunes written, as it's often just a mix of obvious riffs and styles taken from a variety of bands, but the execution is nearly flawless.

The broad range of styles fused into the music reminds me of the weird originality of Czech grinders, mixed with the insanity of French acts, the twisted humour of established Australian bands and the production of modern Swede grind. The vocals are generally a raspy yell, with the occasional shriek in the background or deep deathcore bark in the foreground, but overall a solid job vocally. A few tracks are flawed with uncreative song writing, like the main riff on Queens Of The Scene Age coming straight from Kataklysm's Sorcery, but for the most part the riffs are recognizable without being as obvious. While they may not be the most original song writers, what they lack in creativity they more than make up for with intensity, catchiness and presentation. Their sense of humour is also on display, not only in the incredibly goofy artwork, but also in some of their lyrics and on the final track on the album, Queer Eye For The Metrosexual, which is so bizarre you'd swear it could only come from the warped and twisted minds of the fucked French fairies in Gronibard.

Based upon the album as a whole, I'm convinced the members of Ebolie must've consumed some tainted beef products and are suffering greatly from mad cow disease and more than likely drool on themselves and get confused and run into one another and fall down a lot. Then again, it could just be alcohol poisoning, either way, all I can say is keep it up. I look forward to hearing more from this demented group in the future!

There have come quite a few somewhat weird, but nevertheless good releases from Australian bands over the years and the new album from Ebolie is really no exception either. Elevation into Disintegration does not offer anything unheard and then again perhaps, at least I've never heard scratch in a death metal song before, but besides that it's all been heard numerous times before, however, it doesn't make the songs any less good. The music is deathgrind with all that belongs; however, it's quite obvious that the band approach things from a humours and perhaps also quite unserious angle, but nevertheless it work out well. Ebolie occasionally put a bit of funky bass into the music. There are also quite a few odd, but hilarious samples. It all adds to the diversity of the music and help to give Ebolie a sound and identity of their own.

A slightly better production would have done the music more justice, but fact is that the music is still pretty good so it's really only a minor detail. "Blood Tapped Skull", "Human Error" and "Queens of the Scene Age" were the three songs that immediately struck me as being the most worthwhile, but the remaining tracks are pretty good too. Elevation Into Disintegration is a good release that definitely made me want to hear more from this band.

You wouldn't guess from a first glance of the album cover that Sydney quintet Ebolie 9-track, 20-minute 'Elevation Into Disintegration' was a grind-flavoured, Brutal Death release. The richly coloured drawing depicts a chaotic Sydney whose impact is somehow softened by the cartoonish style of the image. There's looting, rape, graffiting, chemical spillage, anti-terrorist choppers, a sniper and plenty of guns but it somehow seems quite innocent and restrained, despite being anything but. Following the expected few-second narrative, it's impossible to take Ebolie lightly. Relentless, hammering drums pummel atop guttural growls and sickening riffs reign from woe to go on this, Ebolie's debut release.

Fans of Brutal Death which leans towards the Napalm Death 'Grind' side of the genre will be right at home with 'Elevation Into Disintegration', with solid tracks and intense pace throughout. The EP (album according to the band but 20-minutes doesn't constitute a full-length in my books). There are some memorable riffs, as-expected samples, thumping drum beats (including some which have to be electronic) and classy growls.

The majority of tracks maintain a consistent style and sound but track 7, 'Foetal Grindings' commences with a symbol-tapping, relaxed Jazzy affair and progresses into a Thrashy Death track showing that Ebolie aren't afraid, and are capable of mixing it up. It's also great to see some amusing track names appear such as 'Straight Edgetasy', 'Queer Eye For The Metrosexual' and 'Queens Of The Scene Age' the latter of which begins as a pretty clear pisstake of a certain metal subgenre.

Ebolie have got the goods to compete with the Brutal Death big-guns. They've been doing their thing since 1998 and scored a deal with Grindhead records to release 'Elevation Into Disintegration' internationally on Christmas Eve, 2004 - something not too many Australian bands can say they've managed. If you like your metal Brutal and Aussie, I'd recommend checking 'Elevation Into Disintegration' out when you get the chance.

A wonderful and original release!! Once again, another band showing that Australia got one of the most original scene on Earth!! “Elevation into Disintegration” is about 9 tracks of Grind Core in the vein of CEREBRAL TURBULENCY, 1st GOREROTTED, UNHOLY GRAVE and old NAPALM DEATH with elements from Death Metal, Sludge, Hard Core, Punk, Heavy Metal, Funk and even a Jazz break! You could say it’s stupid or so, but this is really well done, well played and the songs stay powerful as fuck! All tracks sound different from each other, and you have listened to these 9 tracks of pure Insanity you just need one thing, to listen to it again and again!! Buy or die!! EBOLIE rules!!!

Grindcore from Australia.  This is not for the purist as there are a hybrid of influences thrown in like death, thrash, hardcore, jazz, funk, and a sick sense of humor on top of it.  I know it's weird but nothing is forced and they pull things off with spontaneity. I am always into bands who are not afraid to step outside the boundaries of a particular genre and stay true to their roots at the same time.  Now I know what's keeping the koala bears awake lately. Ha!  If you are into grindcore with a twist then check them out.  Cool artwork by the way.

This Australian band plays Grind/Death with a mish-mash of pretty eclectic influences, part of it is very quirky, kinda like Dying Fetus while the rest is either technical in a Dillinger Escape Plan way or simply barbaric and grindy. These are some very fast-paced, intricate songs; blasting, thrashing but also with quite a few quiet breaks and jazzy arrangements... Plenty of shredding guitar work, funky basslines, tight, fast drumming and even incorporating some groovy techno beats on a couple of songs... Vocal-wise you've got pretty articulate death growls mixed with higher shrieking and screaming. Sound is very clear, with a certain rawness to it, but each instruments sounds nice and detached from each other, you can always hear the cool twirling bass lines very clearly and stuff...

The thing is this genre isn't exactly my bag but anyhow these guys are talented, extremely proficient musicians, they're really good at what they do and you can feel the band's enthusiasm through each of their songs... This is really intense stuff, the short humorous samples in between the songs also liven things up in a great way... Lyrics seem to be mostly these guys opinions on society and stuff, but it doesn't seem like they take themselves too seriously! Fans of fast technical grind/death/hardcore should normally dig this...

Ebolie, brutal grind band from Sydney NSW. Their debut album out on Grindhead Records is a solid release. Ebolie seem to very socially influenced, all while tongue in cheek grinding mayhem ensues!

Elevation into Disintegration is filled with furious guitars, quick drumming, enormous vocals and quirky sampled and live moments, as all grind fans should expect. Songs such as 'Foetal Grindings' and 'Queer Eye for the Metrosexual' start off with jazzy introductions before getting stuck into the grind. While 'Queens of the Scene Age' starts with an epic rock build up before slaughtering you with a very black riff.

Sheer brutality can be found in such tracks as 'Human Error' and 'Rape of Sanity'. The latter song 'Rape of Sanity' speaks of corporations and religions taking advantage of people. It has this unique, somewhat unexpected epic riff in it. I feel it's the crux of the song, it makes you want the song to go for longer. 'Human Error' speaks of the human error and societies expectations of people, the brutality ends with a small section of jazz bass and drums. The shortest and heaviest song on the album 'Straight Edgetasy' goes for a relentless 41 seconds about situations with the straight edge trend. 'Blood Tapped Skull', 'Work Forced' and 'Elevation into Disintegration' are brutal grindings, yet each have something unique about them, other than being straight up grind.

Ebolie's debut 'Elevation into Disintegration' is a really good release. I feel that if you're Australian you'll easily catch onto what Ebolie showing us with this album. There's a good message in the songs. The cover art is good, it reminds me of a certain punk album from 1994. Contact Grindhead Records for information on how to obtain a copy.

Hmm... This is both really great and damn annoying. When Ebolie grinds and growls all hell breaks lose. The shit really hits the fan, and sprays you all with this great fucking fecal matter. But why the hell do they have to destroy the massive and powerful deathgrind with such annoying breakdowns? Sure, add a little humour to it, but don't fuck it up!!! Pretty much every song either craps up with a fucking hip hop breakdown shit or an annoying sample. Which is really too bad, 'cause all it does is destroying the otherwise marvellous mangle. The growls are fucking massive, the death metal riffs rips you a new one, and the drums will absolutely mangle you to death. At least half the time, the rest of the time is spent fucking around. The screaming's not as good as the growling, and about half the vocal work's screams - Too bad.

This CD leaves me confused, and not in a good way. Some really cool lyrics, like Queer eye for the metrosexual. But the music in Queer eye... is all fucked up. Amazing grinding, but too much samples and weird breakdowns...

Grind fans will be instantly driven to a blood spitting, brain gnashing frenzy when the skull splitting intensity of Ebolie’s extreme metal sound comes smashing into their ears. These guys know how to grind, seriously grind, and they know how to do it with fun. I really, attitude wise, think of the classic days of grind and how much goof you could find back then in the midst of the carnage. (Just think of Anal Cunt, one of grind’s pioneers.) But there’s also some real forward thinking going on here. Besides rhythmic interludes to add dynamics and prevent same-old-same-old boredom’s onset, in spots you’ll hear what sounds like DJ/mixing type stuff and there are segues into non-grind death metal with some nice death melody tortured out of the instruments. Groovy!

Ebolie's "Elevation into disintegration" seemed like another raw grind product, but it isn't. The artwork shows the daily downfall and abuses of humanity and society. Also the lyrics seem pretty critical at this point. Musically, I'd call Ebolie grind with hardcore influences. Punchy rhythms interwoven with aggressive blasting and slower breaks, with occasionally a surprising twist or element that keep the songs even more varied and fun to listen to. All the tracks bathe in a fat grindish production, which does them justice. Nice band, check 'em out

Short Description- Hard Fucking Core (Death Grind)
Origin: Australia

Darren's Review- Formed in Sydney in 1998, and going through a few line-up changes, Ebolie has emerged full force on the hardcore scene. Having done an Australian tour with Exhumed and Bludgeoner, Ebolie has established itself in the Australian metal scene. "Elevation Into Disintegration" sound recording is tight. Combined with sound bytes and some of the most insane blast beats I have ever heard, this album will hit you like a ten ton hammer. I am not sure if I have heard anything as hardcore as this. If I were to choose another band in comparison, I would pick Exhumed... The lyrics are clever, and the percussion is mind blowing. The bass player get really get down too. I expect to hear more from Ebolie. They are currently working on there follow up, hopefully they can make it to the states. I bet they would slay live. www.ebolie.com or www.grindheadrecords.com

Brutalism - The Black and the Brutal
Another piece of evidence that Australia only consists of crazy fucks is Ebolie. Playing grinding deathmetal with some whacky escapes into whatever comes up in these twisted minds. Where this in your face band is fucking technical at times, with lots of variation in tempos and riffing, sounding fucking tight and fresh as little sister's pussy the lyrical topics and songtitles obviously bash everything serious that is left in any music scene. Fucking good release with great artwork, lyrics and of course some mindwhipping deathgrind.

Motherfucker Brutal Music Splitzine
This is some fast & obscure underground grindcore from Australia...it sounds sorta like Blood Duster + Terrorizer + Hellchild + Disharmonic Orchestra ( recall weird funky/jazzy parts on "Not To Be Undimensional" ) .The sound is crystal-clear, yet it aint "anal". ...you know what i mean.Theres 9 tracks on this CD which seems to be band's record number 2.Now if you never heard about this band don't wonder why cause this is the stuff well hidden away from the international scene.Which is a pity actually cause this shit is pretty good if you ask me.

Ebolie could suit all you out there into the crazy non-trendy , non-pretencious grindcore/death.The band is being released on their own label GRIND HEAD RECORDS ( www.grindheadrecords.com ) , theres also few other Ausse acts releasing stuff there so you might wanna check out the sounds. The coverartwok kinda reminds of Nuclear Tribunal CD but Ebolie really has nothing to do with N.T. music-wise...Good Shit!
